Celebrating its 40th anniversary, this collective trio brings together the transcendent talents of jazz masters Mark Helias (Ornette Coleman, Dewey Redman) bass, Gerry Hemingway (George Lewis, Anthony Braxton) drums, and Ray Anderson (Barry Altschul, Charlie Haden) trombone. "A veritable jazz super-group" with "strikingly intuitive sensibilities" (AllAboutJazz), BassDrumBone manages to somehow be greater than the sum of its impressive parts. With telepathic improvisational rapport, indomitable creative spark, and supreme musicianship, these three strong personalities have spent four decades setting the gold standard for innovative small-group interplay before exceeding it in new and surprising ways.
